IRS 'Super Saturday' To Help Workers File Taxes

Need some extra cash to pay those bills? The IRS wants to make sure you get what's yours.

The tax agency is holding a "Super Saturday" on March 29 by opening more than 300 offices.

Workers will help low-income people who may not normally file taxes fill out the forms so that they qualify for the Economic Stimulus Act.

That's President Bush's plan to jumpstart the economy by giving most Americans at least $300.

Just file a return with the IRS, which says it has more than $20 million in unclaimed refunds for Colorado taxpay- ers who had taxes with- held or made esti- mated pay- ments but did not file a federal income tax return for 2004.

22,900 Coloradans could get refunds, half of them for more than $504.

The deadline to file a return and collect is April 15.

Income Tax: The Root of All Evil

Frank Chodorov was an extraordinary thinker and writer, and hugely influential in the 1950s. This is his American classic that argues that the income tax, more than any other legislative change in American history, made it possible to violate individual rights that were at the core of the founding.

He argues that income taxes are different from other forms because they deny the right of private property and presume government control over all things. The introduction is by former IRS commissioner J. Bracken Lee.
