| Business in the Burbs: IRS event set for Saturday
The Internal Revenue Service will open offices in White Plains and West Nyack on Saturday as part of a national campaign to assist Americans who are eligible for the economic stimulus payment but who normally don't file an income tax return. The local offices are among the 320 IRS sites nationally and 21 in the state that will participate in what the tax agency is calling "Super Saturday." The goal is to prepare the simple Form 1040A for people who are filing a return solely to receive a stimulus payment. .
IRS offers free help with tax rebates
FARMINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service is opening its Farmington office at 800 E. 30th St. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday to ensure local taxpayers can get help to receive their economic stimulus rebates. Bill Brunson, regional IRS spokesman in Phoenix, said people who were not required to file a tax return for 2007 can stop by the local office and get help claiming their share of an economic stimulus package that President Bush authorized Jan. 18 to jump-start the nation's slowing economy. "Approximately 320 IRS offices will be open on Super Saturday," Brunson said. Super Saturday is an effort to reach Americans who are eligible for the economic stimulus payment, but who normally are not required to file an income tax return, Brunson said. The group includes low-income workers, retirees, disabled veterans and others.
Tax rebate on the way; here's what you need to know
This is good news at the end of a long and dreary winter: Most of us will get a check from the federal government. Because Congress wants to stimulate the economy, it decided to send checks to more than 130 million American households. In May, when the snow will surely be melted and tulips will be blooming, the rebates will start arriving. .
